Carabao Cup Final: Betting Preview

The first major final of the current football season is set to take place this Sunday afternoon, when Chelsea take on Man City at Wembley in the 2019 League Cup Final.

Pep Guardiola’s Man City side look more convincing than their rivals coming into the final.

After having demolished Chelsea 6-0 in a Premier League clash earlier this month, it’s no surprise British Bookmakers offer them as the favourites to win the Carabao Cup.

It hasn’t come out of the blue (no pun intended) for online bookmakers to pitch Man City as the front-runners and odds-on favourites to win this seasons Carabao Cup Final.

Pep Guardiola’s squad have won 4 of the last 5 matches against Chelsea, and come into the final having won 12 out of their last 13 matches in all competitions.

Chelsea may have a slight home advantage playing in London, but they've lost quite a few of their recent fixtures, and Sarri’s side will no doubt struggle against an in form Man City.

In the lead up to the 2019 Carabao Cup Final between Chelsea and Man City, we've taken a look at both team’s form, and any injuries that could affect either managers plans.

Chelsea: Form

Chelsea secured their place in the 2019 Carabao Cup Final following a dramatic penalty shoot out against London rivals Spurs in the Semi-Finals at Stamford Bridge.

Unfortunately Sarri’s side haven’t looked so convincing lately, losing 3 of their last 4 Premier League matches, and also last weeks 2-0 defeat at home to Man Utd in the FA Cup.

Luckily, Maurizio Sarri's team have no major injury concerns at the moment, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek due back in the line up following his recovery from a lingering back problem.

Chelsea will be hoping that they don’t sustain any new injuries before Sunday's Final as they have a Europa League match against Malmö to play on Thursday evening.

It would be a massive surprise if Sarri’s team were to deviate from their current tactics, and given both teams have similar styles and formations, it will be down to who plays better on the day.

If Chelsea don’t improve on their recent performances, they’ll really struggle to even compete at the same level as Man City are capable of and to lift the Carabao Cup trophy.

Man City: Form

Man City are on fire at the moment, having only lost 1 of their last 13 matches across all competitions, and are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table on goal difference.

Pep Guardiola's men saw off Burton Albion in the Semi-Finals and bookmakers offer them as the front runners to beat Chelsea on Sunday and take their first trophy of the 2018-19 season.

Unfortunately, there are a few injury concerns for Man City, but Sergio Aguero, who missed the FA Cup victory at Newport, is expected to return for the Carabao Cup Final.

Vincent Kompany, Benjamin Mendy and Claudio Bravo have all been absent on-and-off since the start of the year and are all set to miss out on Man City's biggest game of the season so far.

Guardiola also has a key Champions League match to play away at Schalke 04 this week ahead of the final, and will be hoping that no more players are added to his injury list.

In reality, Man City should easily win the League Cup on Sunday as they're in better form, and are scoring a lot more goals, and letting in a lot less than Chelsea at the moment.

They look a much stronger and focused side than Chelsea, and if they continue to play to the high standard we’ve seen from them so far, Man City should add their first piece of silverware of the season to their trophy cabinet without too much difficulty.
