Grand National 2017

Online bookmakers have been working hard over the past few weeks to select their favourites to win the most valuable National Hunt race in Europe - the 2017 Grand National taking place on Saturday April 8th.

With an estimated 600 million people tuning in to watch, bookmakers will be competing with each other to offer punters the best odds on all of the runners.

That's good news for those that like a flutter on the Grand National, which is must of us, as the betting odds on most runners are pretty competitive.

Although there are 40 runners in the 2017 Grand National, with odds that will shift the closer we get to race day, we've decided to showcase bookmakers best odds for the 10 most likely to win.

Best Odds on The Favourites

When betting on the Grand National it's a good idea to take into account a horses previous success rates, but also it's age, weight, jockey and who trained the horse.

We've listed which bookmakers are offering the best odds on the main runners below and have included the information to help you make a more informed bet.

Vieux Lion Rouge  Vieux Lion Rouge - FR

Vieux Lion Rouge, most online bookmakers favourite to win the 2017 Grand National, will come into the biggest horse race of the year having won his previous two races. Odds are shortening, so bet early to get the best odds on one of the favourites.

Definitly Red  Definitly Red - IRE

Definitly Red, who won the Grimthorpe Chase in March, is currently online bookmakers second-favourite, and could easily win the Grand National. Brian Ellison’s Irish runner has won 4 of its last 6 outings and is looking in extremely good form.

  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 10-11
  • Trainer: Brian Ellison
  • 12/1 at

More of That  More of That - IRE

More of That may be a pro around the Cheltenham course, but he has never run at Aintree. Jonjo O’Neill’s entrant is a strong runner with a decent win rate, however winning the 2017 Grand National could be too much of an ask.

Blaklion  Blaklion - GB

Blaklion is another strong contender for the big race, having finished in 2nd place in the Grand National Trials. Top jockey, Noel Fehily, will ride Blaklion in the Grand National and this strong combination could be a good punt as the odds are good.

  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 11-00
  • Trainer: Nigel Twiston-Davies
  • 14/1 at

Pleasant Company  Pleasant Company - IRE

Pleasant Company isn’t a very experienced runner, having only managed to secure 5 races so far in his career. In saying that, this Willie Mullins runner has won 2 of his last 3 races and could offer a very good return for those that back him at these odds.

Cause of Causes  Cause of Causes - USA

Cause of Causes, who finished 8th in the 2015 Grand National with odds of 14/1, is the favourite runner out of Gordon Elliott’s 3 entries for 2017. Having also just won at Cheltenham, he's in strong form and definitely worth sticking a few quid on.

  • Age: 9
  • Weight: 10-12
  • Trainer: Gordon Elliott
  • 16/1 at

One for Arthur  One for Arthur - IRE

One for Arthur has won 2 of his last 3 races, and is also in pretty good form. Online bookmakers odds seem to be continually shortening on Lucinda Russell’s 8 year old, who shows all the signs of being a big race winner in 2017.

  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 10-10
  • Trainer: Lucinda Russell
  • 16/1 at

The Last Samuri  The Last Samuri - IRE

The Last Samuri secured 2nd place in both the 2016 Grand National and Grimthorpe Chase. Kim Bailey’s runner has proved to be a profitable horse for a lot of horse racing fans over the year’s, and is worth considering at these favourable odds.

Ucello Conti  Ucello Conti - FR

Another Gordon Elliott entrant, Ucello Conti finished 6th in last year’s Grand national and has been in good form winning a lot of the best handicaps in Ireland. Gordon Elliott also took the trainer’s title at the Cheltenham Festival earlier this year.

Saphir Du Rheu  Saphir Du Rheu - FR

Saphir Du Rheu is another strong contender for the 2017 Grand National having finished second in a hot handicap at Cheltenham earlier this year. Paul Nicholls horse also won a Class Two chase at Kelso and seems right at home with big fences.

  • Age: 8
  • Weight: 11-04
  • Trainer: Paul Nicholls
  • 22/1 at
