Man Utd v Liverpool: Betting Preview

Liverpool head to Old Trafford this Sunday afternoon, where they'll face rivals Man Utd in what is one of their most important fixtures of the Premier league season so far.

Both sides are on top form heading into this epic match, and while a loss for Liverpool will be a major blow for their title hopes, bookmakers offer them as favourites to claim all 3 points.

Liverpool won the first match of the season versus Man Utd back in December, when Klopp’s side secured a 3-1 victory at Anfield against José Mourinho's under performing side.

Since then, Man Utd have been under the guidance of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and have only lost 1 match since he came on board, a 2-0 loss to PSG in the Champions League.

Without a doubt, Man Utd will provide an extremely challenging match for Liverpool, especially with a home advantage, but Liverpool are having an incredible season.

In the lead up to Man Utd v Liverpool, we've taken a look at both team’s recent performances, and any player injuries that could impact either manager for this crucial fixture.

Man Utd come into the Liverpool match sitting in 4th place on 51 points after a stunning recent run of results that's seen them climb from 10th place to above Chelsea.

Although they lost to PSG, Man Utd haven’t lost any of their last 9 Premier League matches and have really come back to deliver the high level of performances expected of them.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side may not be the favourites to win, but a victory against their long-term rivals would put them in a much stronger position in their chase for a top 4 spot.

That's especially important when you consider that they'll next play Crystal Palace and Southampton, before facing top 4 rivals Arsenal on the 11th of March.

The more points they accrue now, the better off they'll be heading into the final stages of the season and so Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be determined to get something out of the match.

There are a few injury concerns for the Man Utd side, with Lingard and Martial ruled out, however defenders Darmian, Valencia and Rojo may be available for selection.

This isn’t going to be an easy fixture for Man Utd, and although Liverpool won the last outing, Man Utd won the previous fixture and held Liverpool to draws in the previous 3 matches.

If United can bring their A game on Sunday, there is no reason why they can’t beat Liverpool.

Liverpool are having an absolutely amazing season, and come into the Man Utd fixture sitting in 2nd place, on equal points with reigning Champions and current leaders Man City.

Remarkably Jurgen Klopp’s side have still only lost 1 match all season, and a win on Sunday could see them strengthen their dreams of securing their first league title since 1990.

A victory over their North West rivals would put them in a great position for the latter stages of the title race, as they'll face Watford, Everton and Burnley in their following fixtures.

Klopp really needs a win, not only to challenge Man City, but also to keep 3rd place Spurs off their back as they’re only 5 points behind and should beat Burnley this weekend.

Despite not playing this weekend due to the League Cup Final; Chelsea v Man City, they have a pretty easy run coming up compared to most and Liverpool will need to keep on top of them.

Fortunately Liverpool don’t have too many major injury worries to deal with ahead of the game.

Joseph Gomez (leg injury) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee injury) are definitely out, but Tavares, Shaqiri and Lovren are all expected to be back in time for Sunday's match.
