Man City v Watford: Betting Preview

The climax to the 138th FA Cup takes place at Wembley Stadium on Saturday evening, when Premier League Champions Man City take on Watford in the 2019 FA Cup Final.

After winning the Premier League title and also the EFL Cup earlier this season, Man City are now aiming to be the first English side to win the domestic treble.

As expected, British Bookmakers offer Man City as clear favourites to win this clash and secure their 6th FA Cup title, while Watford will be looking for their first FA Cup trophy.

This is the 4th time these sides will have met in the FA Cup, with Man City winning 3 of those matches, while Watford have only managed to win 1 of the fixtures back in 1986.

Man City have certainly had much more success in the competition, and this will be there 11th appearance in an FA Cup final, as they strive to take the £3.6million prize money.

Watford on the other hand, have never won the FA Cup and are appearing in their first final since 1984 where despite playing well, they lost 2-0 to Everton.

Saturday's FA Cup Final between Man City and Watford will also be the first time since the Final back in 2008 that both sides' managers will have been of the same nationality.

Whichever manager wins they'll be the 3rd Spaniard to win lift the FA Cup trophy after Rafael Benitez did so in 2006 with Liverpool and Roberto Martinez won it with Wigan in 2013.

In the lead up to the FA Cup Final: Man City v Watford, we've taken a look at both team’s recent form, and any player injuries that could affect either teams preparations for the game.

After winning the Premier League on the last day of the season and also the Carabao Cup, Man City are on a roll and will be determined to win the domestic treble.

Adding the FA Cup title to their season’s silverware would be a dream for Pep Guardiola's side.

No team has ever won the League Cup, FA Cup and League title in the same season, and if Man City can beat Watford, there will be a lot more than an FA Cup Final victory to celebrate.

This will be Man City’s 11th appearance in an FA Cup final and their first since the 1-0 loss to Wigan in 2013 with victories in 1904, 1934, 1956, 1969 and 2011.

On the back of such a strong season, it’s easy to see why bookmakers offer the Manchester side as the strong favourites to lift win the FA Cup Final on Saturday.

They have had a pretty good run in the competition so far, with 20 goals under their belt, and strong victories over Brighton in the semi-finals and Swansea in the quarter-finals.

There is no reason why Man City can’t beat Watford on Saturday, and with no major injury concerns to contend with, there won't be many punters betting against them.

A popular bet has to be Sergio Agüero to score as he's bagged 10 goals in just 7 appearances against Watford including a hat-trick in a 2014 FA Cup match.

Fernandinho is expected back, and only Mendy and Bravo are set to miss the FA Cup Final on Saturday, giving Guardiola virtually a full squad to choose from.

This will be Watford’s first appearance in an FA Cup Final in 35 years, but Javi Gracia won’t have an easy match against newly crowned Premier League title holders Man City.

Unfortunately Watford haven’t beaten Man City in any competition since 1989, and a victory at Wembley on Saturday could be too much to ask from them.

Watford have lost on the previous 10 occasions they've played Man City conceding 32 goals.

They are now also winless in 15 games in all competitions against Man City (W0 D2 L13) since they managed a narrow 1-0 win in March 1989 in League Division Two.

In saying that, up until the last 3 fixtures of the Premier League season Gracia’s men were doing quite well, with victories over Wolves in the semi-finals and Crystal Palace in the quarters.

In comparison to Man City, they’ve only scored 9 goals in the FA Cup on route to the Final and they will need to work really hard to create scoring opportunities against a solid defence.

Luckily Watford also don’t have too many injury worries, and Jose Holebas has also been cleared to play after the FA withdrew his red card that was handed out against West Ham.

The only injury concerns for the Hornets are Domingos Quina and Sebastian Prodl. Etienne Capoue is back in the squad and available for selection.

There’s no doubt that Watford are massive underdogs for the 2019 FA Cup Final and will have to work extremely hard to be in with any chance of preventing Man City winning the treble!
