Iran v Spain: Preview

After a shaky opening game that saw Spain hold Portugal to a draw, the Spaniards are hoping to secure their first win of the tournament when they take on Iran in tonight’s World Cup clash.

While Iran beat Morocco in their opening game, and currently sit top of the Group B table, they are still the rank outsiders, and bookmakers offer Spain as favourites to win.

Spain may have not had the result they hoped for in their opening game, but luckily there hasn’t been too much of a fall out from the sacking of their manager on the eve of the World Cup.

pain played extremely well against Portugal, only missing out on a win due to Ronaldo’s late goal, and new manager Hierro will be confident they can easily beat Iran in Kazan tonight.

Iran had a spectacular result from their opening game against Morocco, but it will be very different game against Spain. That was their first win in the World Cup finals in 20 years, and there is a lot of pressure on Iran to continue their winning run.

Carlos Queiroz still has Portugal to play, and realistically, you won’t find bookmakers offering Iran as one of the teams to make it through to the next round with such difficult teams to face.

Luckily, both teams came through their opening games without suffering any injuries or suspensions and have full squads for each coach to choose from.

While bookmakers offer Spain as favourites to win, Iran are a strong side, and Spain’s biggest struggle will be to breakthrough and open up some scoring opportunities.

Costa proved his form against Portugal and is 3rd in the Golden Boot betting market, however Iranian keeper Ali Beiranvand has been impressive and could cause Spain some upset.

As one of the top contender’s in the World Cup, Spain must secure a win against Iran.

he Spanish were eliminated at the group stage in two of the last three World Cup tournaments, when they failed to win their opening game, and will be determined not to suffer the same fate.
