Community Shield: Betting Preview
The new English Football Season finally resumes on Sunday afternoon when the 2019 Community Shield will be contested at Wembley Stadium.
Having won both the Premier League and FA Cup, Man City will take on runners up Liverpool.
Having beaten them by a single point in the Premier League title race, this is set to be one hell of an opening match, with British Bookmakers offering Man City as favourites to win.
The last 10 matches across all competitions have seen Man City secure 3 wins, including a 2-1 victory in their last fixture back in January.
Liverpool however, have won 5 matches while the other 2 have ended in draw results.
Man City won this match last season, and it’s easy to see why bookmakers offer them as favourites after taking the domestic quadruple last season.
Liverpool won’t be an easy team to beat, and with 15 Community Shield titles under their belt and, they could easily take their first piece of silverware of the season.
This is the first time these sides have met in the Community Shield, and while Man City are the favourites, Liverpool have a better track record and will be determined to avoid losing to the side that took the Premier League title by 1 point last season.
In the lead up to the 2019 Community Shield between Man City and Liverpool, we've taken a look at both team’s form, and the player injuries that could affect the outcome of the game.
Man City
Looking at the last 5 fixtures that Man City have played in, they've won 4, drawn 1, and lost 0 scoring a total of 19 goals (3.8 goals per game) and conceding a total of just 3 goals.

Pep Guardiola’s Man City squad head to Wembley for this opening clash, with high hopes of retaining the Community Shield having won it this time last year.
Having won English football’s annual curtain raiser last season, and then going on to take a domestic quadruple by winning the Premier League, League Cup, FA Cup along with the Community Shield, Man City will be determined for a another strong start to their campaign.
Man City have appeared in the Community Shield a total of 12 times, and have won 5 times.
Their last win was in 2018 when they beat Chelsea, and Aguero scored twice for a 2-0 victory.
Their previous win in a Community Shield was also against Chelsea, this time in 2012, when they took a 3-2 victory with goals from Yaya Toure, Carlos Tevez and Samir Nasri.
This is also Man City’s 125th Anniversary year, and a win in the Community Shield would be the perfect start to the season for Pep Guardiola’s men.
The biggest issue for Man City is that Aguero and Mahrez are more than likely going to be ruled out, having just returned from the Copa America and Africa Cup of Nations.
Apart from those two key players, Guardiola pretty much has a full squad to chose from, although Benjamin Mendy and Fernando Luiz Roza may miss the match due to injury.
Man City are still the bookmakers favourites and should just about edge the match on paper.
Liverpool
Liverpool's record over their last 5 matches in pre-season is won 1, drawn 1 and lost 3. They've scored less than Man City, 8 in total (1.6 goals per game) and conceded more (11).

Liverpool had a fantastic 2018-19 season, securing their 6th Champions League title by beating unlikely finalists Spurs, and also taking 2nd place in the Premier League race.
Jurgen Klopp’s men will be looking for a strong start to this season’s campaign, especially against the only side they lost a match to in the 2018/19 Premier League.
Although bookmakers offer Man City as the favourites, Liverpool have the better track record, and they could very well beat Guardiola’s men in their first Community Shield since 2006.
Liverpool are the 2nd most decorated team in the Community Shield.
They’ve made a total of 22 appearances in Community Shield matches and secured 15 trophies, however their last victory was back in 2006, when they beat Chelsea 2-0.
Jürgen Klopp would love to win and put one over Guardiola, but he'll probably be unwilling to risk his star players this early in the season when they'll be more important in the latter stages.
Even though Liverpool’s entire first-choice defence will be available, it’s unlikely that we will see Salah, Alisson, Mane and Roberto Firmino play, meaning City could have the advantage.
Liverpool's pre-season form as been quite sporadic, with their first win only coming in their last match against Lyon when they won 3-1 thanks to goals from Firmino, Andersen and Wilson.
